January through April
This was fun. Started out due to cramped working conditions when attempting to join just a few boards with Christmas present biscuit joiner. They came out less than perfect in alignment.
So at first I roughed out a new space with scrap 2 x 4’s and such. As I thought of how to do the top layer though I got a little ambitious, having recently gotten some nicer woods from a few places
I incorporated the first panel on the left despite it’s bumpiness – I addressed that to some degree with planing and sanding. That center front board is Bubinga. Now I had an old vise, my great grand-father’s, lying around as well as a fabulous wood vise with quick release from my father-in-law. These I installed, the installation of the latter requiring a whole ‘nother layer of support/strength on the left side.
The yellow circles are wooden (orange osage) washers I fashioned to diminish the size of the holes made by the bolt and washers used to secure the vise. Sanded flush. Of course the far vise wanted to to be refreshed –
So as of about April 4 this setup was in place and it’s been a delight and a satisfaction, however imperfect it may be, to use the capabilities it affords.
Very nice.
